They’re not at all the same band as they were when they first started, which is probably a good thing for their longevity seeing as the ultra-theatrical teen angst schtick was only going to ever take them so far. To be fair though, when I saw them in the middle of that period I decided it was one of the best live shows I’d ever seen, but I have always had a thing for theatrical teen angst upon occasion. The Horrors have taken it down a notch and become somewhat more likable, or mature, or have at the very minimum started to diversify their influences, or something. In any case, moving away from being a one-trick-pony sideshow act, this is a band who are just clearing a major turning point for themselves and are starting to look like someone more people will be following in the near and longer term future.
